A very hot and bright day heralded the last day of term for pupils at Pangbourne College, the Founders day celebrations in the 100th year of the College. The College Marching Band led the opening Founders’ Day Parade on a packed Parade Ground in the morning at the beginning of ceremonies. Led confidently by Drum Major Sasha Pokrovskaya, and this year under popular Bandmaster Mr Jeremy Clack – they mixed the traditional with the contemporary in a wonderfully revamped repertoire which entertained the crowds – including an elegantly fun rendition of the modern classic Happy by Pharrell Williams
Prize Giving in the specially constructed Centenary Marquee on Devitt Lawn provided a few challenges for photography, with a colourful but very red ceiling drape that cast a rosy hue over the audience, and the Guest of Honour for the day, Professor Bart McGettrick, who was also wearing red. For any photographers reading this remember your Gray card!
The rest of the day was a festival of Cricket, Musical recitals, Picnics and exhibitions.
The day concluded with Beat Retreat, where the Marching Band and Guard parade. The drum display and the exhibition drill was very well received, with many expressing the opinion that it was the best for many years.
